A useful website audit is not a list of tool scores. It connects technical checks to a real visitor journey: can people and crawlers reach the page, understand the offer, and take the next step?
SEO helps search engines discover and interpret useful pages. Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) apply the same foundations—clear, factual, well-structured content—to answer and AI-assisted search systems. None of these practices guarantees rankings, traffic, or citations.
Start with crawlability and page ownership
Confirm that important pages return the intended status, have one self-referencing canonical URL, and are included in an accurate sitemap. A missing page should be a genuine 404; a retired page needs an intentional redirect, 404, or 410 rather than an accidental soft error.

Structured data can clarify page purpose and relationships when it matches visible facts. Use the smallest accurate graph: for example, an Organization and WebSite reference plus an applicable Service, Article, or BreadcrumbList. More schema types do not create authority or prove that an answer engine will use the page.
Measure the experience, not just the markup
Performance and accessibility are acquisition concerns as well as engineering concerns. Measure the actual Largest Contentful Paint element, layout stability, and real interactions in a production-like build. Test keyboard navigation, visible focus, form labels, and reduced-motion behavior on representative devices.
Heavy media and WebGL can be compelling when they stay outside the critical content path. Meaningful HTML, navigation, and calls to action should arrive first, with a static fallback when advanced visuals are unavailable.
Turn findings into a prioritised plan
Prioritise broken routes, misleading metadata, inaccessible controls, and missing primary content before cosmetic warnings. Record what was measured, what is a hypothesis, and what requires business or Search Console evidence. That makes the next release testable instead of performative.
